Mounties seized more than half a dozen replica firearms last night after multiple officers to a Kamloops motel.

Kamloops RCMP were called last night, Jan. 12, to the 500-block of Columbia Street West, where a caller claimed people were outside his unit with a shotgun, according to an RCMP news release.

He told police he was holding them off with a BB gun, according to the release.

Police responded around 10:10 p.m., and were told while on their way that the people moved to the back of the building and were planning to "shoot up" the motel, RCMP said.

“Multiple officers attended and cleared the area, confirming the report to be unfounded,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Police arrested one man for offenses which included public mischief. He was placed in cells to sober up and later released without being processed.

More than half a dozen Airsoft and BB guns were seized, including one replica "tommy gun," all of which will be destroyed, RCMP said.

The investigation is ongoing.
