The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen took Penticton Mayor Julius Bloomfield to small claims court over an unpaid ticket worth $165.

Bloomfield was fined for committing a bylaw infraction on June 7, 2023 at 8:45 a.m., and a copy of the ticket was included in documents filed through the Penticton Courthouse on July 31.

A bylaw officer had reasonable and probable grounds to penalize Bloomfield $150 for having an aggressive dog not securely confined on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, according to the bylaw offence notice, which he was issued a week later on June 14.

The penalty was raised to $165 because the ticket was not paid within 28 days.

Bloomfield said he doesn’t dispute the ticket, but left it unpaid because he stuck it in a drawer and forgot about it.

“Pure oversight on my part,” he said, adding that the fine was paid this morning.

“Somebody didn’t like my dog on the KVR. Straight forward, no big deal… My bad.”
