RCMP Volunteers help deliver crime prevention message

Kelowna RCMP Citizen Patrol will be distributing crime prevention notices to cars throughout the city in the coming weeks.

The notices will contain crime prevention tips.

-  Lock your vehicle when leaving it unattended
-  Remove valuables from your vehicle or at least remove them from public view

Notices will be placed on windshields as citizen patrol roams neighbourhoods and parks.

RCMP say more than 70 per cent of these crimes involve unlocked vehicles and the period between May to September is when they are most likely to occur. They also tend to happen overnight in residential areas while during the day in recreation and business parking areas. More than 1,800 vehicles were targeted in 2012.
