PENTICTON — Fire crews responded to a structure fire near the corner of Huth Avenue and Fairview Road in Penticton early this morning.

A media release says Penticton Fire Rescue answered the call at about 2:40 a.m. today, Feb. 10.

A spokesperson with Penticton Fire Rescue told iNFOnews that RCMP are taking over the investigation.

Richard "Rick" Ringer lives behind the house that went up in flames. He says he noticed a glow coming from his window, and saw the neighbour's house was on fire.

By the time Ringer got his family out of his house, he says the neighbour's residence was engulfed in flame.

"I went around to the other side with the firemen, ambulance, emergency services," Ringer says in a phone interview. "I noticed them [treating] some guy...and the guy was saying something about his friend who was inside the house."

He then saw crews try to get back into the burning house to let the dog out, he says.

"The dog was still stuck inside," Ringer recalls. "The firemen tried, they couldn’t get inside. So I don’t think they made it out."

RCMP have not confirmed any injuries or deaths in this fire. Police have not yet released any information.
