RCMP tactical team arrests dangerous suspect in Kelowna

A man wanted in connection with violent incidents in Kelowna and West Kelowna over the last few months was arrested by police last night.

Kelowna RCMP officers and Emergency Response Team members worked together to take down the wanted Kelowna man last evening, Oct. 7, according to an RCMP media release.

Investigators believe the man to be responsible for a series of violent interactions with two victims in recent months, where he pointed a firearm and threatened them.

The suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the two victims, Oct. 4. They immediately called 911 but the suspect fled the area when police arrived and was not located at that time.

The victims told police that the suspect also pointed a firearm and threatened them April 22. There were no injuries in either incident, and the victims and suspect were known to each other.

“Due to the suspects escalating violent behaviour, covert plain clothes operators were tasked with bringing him into custody safely,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release. “Those members located their target Wednesday evening in Kelowna. To ensure public and police safety, a coordinated arrest was carried out by the Emergency Response Team, supported by additional front line officers, a police canine unit.”

The suspect, a 43-year-old Kelowna man, remains in police custody facing numerous criminal charges. He is expected to appear in court today, Oct. 8.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
