RCMP seek arsonist who set as many as 29 wildfires from Lake Country to Osoyoos

OKANAGAN - RCMP have announced they are seeking a serial arsonist who may have deliberately set as many as 29 wildfires in the Okanagan Valley over the last four years.

That list includes a Lake Country fire that destroyed eight homes last summer, RCMP E Division media relations officer Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau said in a press release.

The 29 fires were set in the communities of Naramata, Okanagan Falls, Osoyoos, Oliver, Penticton, Summerland and Lake Country and took place between July 7, 2014 and September 1, 2017.

Linteau said the RCMP set up the Intentionally Set Wildfires Task Force in May to further the investigation and to identify the person or persons responsible.

The task force is inter-jurisdictional and can override inter-agency boundaries, the release said.

The 29 wildfires include, in part, the following:

The Southeast District RCMP Intentionally Set Wildfires Task Force asks that anyone who has any information about any of the 29 wildfires or who may have seen anyone suspicious around the areas to contact the designated tip line 1-855-685-8788.
