RCMP safely located missing infant after AMBER Alert

Today, Dec. 9, an AMBER Alert was issued when a man unexpectedly fled from police with an infant in his vehicle, the child was found safe a few hours later.

Police were conducting an investigation on 146A Street when officers spoke with a man in a vehicle with a 2-month-old infant. The man unexpectedly drove off, according to a press release from Surrey RCMP.

Later this morning police saw the vehicle again, and again the man fled from police.

Officers investigated further and determined the child was in danger, so an AMBER Alert was issued.

Less than 15 minutes after the alert was issued Chilliwack RCMP received a tip which led to the safe recovery of the child, and the arrest of a male suspect.

“The AMBER Alert worked exactly how it was designed to work,” Cpl. Vanessa Munn, Surrey RCMP said in the release. “Police immediately began receiving tips, and that is what led us to being able to quickly and safely locate the infant.”

The investigation is still ongoing so no further information is available at the moment.
