A suspected car thief was arrested in Kelowna after police dog tracked him down.
Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 1000-block of Highway 33 the evening of Thursday, Dec. 12, according to a press release from police.
Officers searched the area and found the stolen vehicle with a potential suspect still inside. When an officer approached the car the suspect was aggressive and fled on foot.
RCMP used a police dog to track the suspect to a house in the 400-block of Lester Road and officers contained the house until they could get a warrant.
Police told the suspect to come out, and he ignored them.
Once officers had a warrant they went into the house with a police dog, and arrested the suspect who was in the basement.
The suspect is a 35-year-old man who is known to police. He's still in custody and is set to appear in court Friday.
Since the investigation is ongoing police will not be releasing any more details.
“This was excellent work by our frontline officers with support of Police Dog Services to track and locate this suspect,” RCMP Insp. Jason Charney said in the release. “Our teams are extremely dedicated in ensuring individuals who commit these offences are brought before the courts.”
