A chicken was enduring kicks and strikes from three teens before a Coquitlam RCMP officer arrived to rescue the flightless bird.

Somebody called the police to report a chicken in distress at around 9:15 p.m. yesterday, July 27, according to a release from the Coquitlam RCMP. Police were told three youths were huddled around a chicken kicking and striking it.

An officer arrived to find the chicken, however the teens had fled the area.

"Fowl play is suspected,” RCMP saID in the release.

“We weren’t sure what to expect, but the chicken was quite friendly,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins said in the release. “We believe that the chicken is domesticated and maybe someone’s pet. It didn’t squawk or fuss, it just went along with us like it knew it was in the wrong place.”

Officers took the wounded bird to the local SPCA where it will stay until the owner can be found.

“This is one jail bird we would like to set free and reunite with their owners,” RCMP said.
