The search for a missing Wilmer man ended tragically when searchers found his remains but they also found his dog Rusty, which refused to leave his side.
Martin Baker was last seen Sept. 2, when he left his Wilmer home with his pitbull-cross for a walk. The RCMP launched a search along with search and rescue crews, who scoured the area throughout the night and into Sept. 3, according to an RCMP news release.

At 1:10 p.m. MT an RCMP officer in a RCMP fixed-wing aircraft spotted what searchers later determined to be Baker's remains near Wilmer Lake. Columbia Valley RCMP notified the B.C. Coroners Service and an independent investigation has been launched into the man’s sudden death.
Rusty stayed by Baker’s side until searchers reached the scene, despite being off his leash. The dog was found in good spirits and good health, according to the RCMP.
"Police do not believe that criminality was involved in Martin's sudden death," said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, of the B.C. RCMP Southeast District, in the press release.
