RCMP investigating two shooting deaths in Kamloops as homicides

Police officers guard the entrance to the Comfort Inn and Suites on Rogers Place. Kamloops RCMP are investigating two separate homicides after two people died of gunshot wounds on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019.

KAMLOOPS — Police have confirmed that two men who were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds earlier today have died from their injuries.

Kamloops RCMP were called out to two different locations today, Jan. 23, where two men were found with gunshot wounds. Police were initially called to the Super 8 Hotel in Valleyview just before 7 a.m. this morning and were called out again just before 9 a.m. to the Comfort Inn and Suites in Aberdeen.

Both men were found outside the hotels in the separate incidents, an RCMP media release says. These deaths have now been classified as homicides.

“Currently we have numerous police resources, both uniform and plain clothes officers investigating both incidents,” Kamloops RCMP media spokesperson Jodi Shelkie says in the release.

Because the shootings happened within two hours of each other in public places, police are asking the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity they may see in the community to police right away.

Kamloops RCMP will be holding a news conference regarding these incidents tomorrow.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
