RCMP investigating fatal Shuswap motorcycle collision

CHASE - A 60-year-old Chase man was killed in a crash between a motorcycle and a pickup truck in the North Shuswap Sunday afternoon.

RCMP say the collision happened on Squilax Angelmont highway near Magna Bay at about 2:15 p.m., April 3.

The motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck travelling in the same direction toward Chase, according to a RCMP media release. The driver of the truck fled the scene after the collision.

Sgt. Mike Pears with Central Interior Traffic Services says the driver contacted police from his home in Sorrento.

The 55-year-old Sorrento man was arrested yesterday according to Sgt. Gary Heebner with Chase RCMP.

The man is now being investigated for failing to remain at the scene, and part of that investigation is determining whether or not he was impaired at the time of the incident, Pears says.

The B.C. Coroners Service is also part of the investigation into the fatal crash.

—This story was updated at 2:36 p.m., April 4, 2016 to include that the man was arrested.
