RCMP dive team searches Kelowna's Mission Creek

Members of the RCMP dive team use metal detectors to search Mission Creek around the bridge near the Environmental Education Centre in Mission Creek Regional Park in Kelowna, Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

KELOWNA - RCMP serious crimes investigators are focusing on a portion of Mission Creek in Kelowna but won't say why.

"We are limited in what we can discuss," RCMP spokesperson Corp. Dan Moskaluk says. "I can confirm the Kelowna serious crime unit is conducting an investigation and requested the assistance of the RCMP underwater recovery team, which is currently in Kelowna."

Moskaluk says the search is focused in the creek around the Environmental Education Centre in Mission Creek Regional Park, off Springfield Road.

The members of the dive team are using metal detectators to look for evidence, but an officer at the scene wouldn't elaborate.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience if their access to the area has been restricted," Moskaluk says.
