MERRITT - RCMP say the disappearance of a Merritt ranch manager almost two months ago is suspicious.

Ben Tyner, 31, the manager of the Nicola Ranch was last seen on Jan. 26 and police were notified two days later after his riderless horse was discovered on a logging road off Highway 97C near Winnie Flats northwest of Merritt. An extensive search found no trace of Tyner.

Major crimes detectives joined investigation about a week later, but at the time said there was no evidence of foul play. RCMP also made an appeal for dashcam footage from Jan. 26 and Jan. 27.

Police are now investigating his disappearance as suspicious.

"Sometimes at the onset of an investigation there are pieces that don’t quite fit and while there is nothing definite, they warrant further investigation," RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says in a media release.

"Now having had the opportunity to review all the pieces, we believe that the circumstances surrounding Mr. Tyner’s disappearance may involve criminality."

Police are not releasing further details about the investigation at this time.

Anyone who has information about Tyner’s disappearance is asked to contact Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262 or Southeast District Major Crime Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
