PENTICTON - Two traffic infractions resulted in close calls on Penticton streets last week.

With school back in session, Penticton RCMP have been enforcing traffic laws in school zones.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says members of the municipal traffic section were conducting enforcement of the school zone on Green Avenue on Thursday, Sept. 14 around 1:50 p.m. when they encountered a driver who had been drinking after stopping the vehicle for driving at excessive speed.

Wrigglesworth says the driver also had a child in the car.

Police issued a ticket for speeding and a warning after the driver was found not to have exceeded the limit for blood alcohol.

In a separate incident, RCMP were called to a collision in the intersection of Atkinson Street and Industrial Avenue on Sept. 14.

Wrigglesworth says a green Subaru making a left hand turn from Atkinson onto Industrial struck a woman pushing a stroller with a four year old inside.

The woman and child were treated in hospital for minor injuries and the driver of the Subaru was issued a ticket for making an improper turn at the intersection, he says.
