RCMP bomb squad checking out suspicious object found in West Kelowna

FILE PHOTO

A street in West Kelowna remains closed as RCMP wait for the arrival of the bomb squad to check out a suspicious object.

The suspicious object was found this morning, May 26, on the shoulder of Bartley Road in West Kelowna, according to an RCMP media release.

The call came in at around 8:27 a.m. and officers remain on the scene awaiting the arrival of the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit.

RCMP said the object was discovered near the end of Barley Road in an area that is less populated. Approximately 10 to 15 homes are in the immediate area. No one has been evacuated but officers have gone door-to-door to ask residents to stay put until more progress is made in the investigation.

Motorists approaching the area are being turned around and exiting the street the way they came in.

RCMP said more information will be released once it becomes available.
