RCMP appeal for witnesses to West Kelowna murder

FILE PHOTO

RCMP major crime investigators are hoping witnesses to a murder in West Kelowna last week will come forward.

Police say a 35-year-old man died from a gunshot wound following a shooting early in the morning Sunday, March 21, on Highway 97 and Elk Road in West Kelowna. RCMP closed the busy intersection for a big part of the day as investigators did their work.

RCMP confirmed today, April 1, in a media release an autopsy has found the victim died from a gunshot wound. At the time police said the incident had the characteristics of a targeted shooting.

The victim's identity has not been released.

As the investigation into the homicide continues, police are looking for eye witnesses and dash cam video from people who drove through the area of the shooting between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m.

Investigators say a vehicle headed towards West Kelowna stopped in the intersection of Highway 97 and Elk Road for a brief time.

“Investigators are seeking to speak to the occupants of that vehicle which is described as a dark coloured vehicle, potentially a smaller style SUV,” RCMP said in the release.

Police ask everyone with this information to contact the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
