A midwife in Duncan is performing restricted activities and midwifery services without being permitted to do so.

Gloria Lemay isn't entitled to practice midwifery in BC and according a notice posted by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, Jan. 31, Lemay is not and never has been one of their registrants.

The college, after receiving reports that Lemay continues to work as a birth attendant and midwife in BC, issued the advisory.

Lemay is the subject of a permanent court order in BC, which has prohibited her from performing midwifery services since Feb. 2, 2000.

As defined by the Midwives Regulation, Lemay is banned from defining herself as a midwife or recovering any fees for such services.

On Jan. 25, the College appeared in the BC Supreme Court and obtained an order to search Lemay's residence.

Evidence related to her ongoing and unauthorized practice was seized by college investigators and members of the RCMP.

The college said that it will now review the evidence and determine the next steps to be taken against Lemay.

The College encourages the public to verify the registration of any midwife through its midwife verification website here.
