A BC nurse was reprimanded and ordered to take sensitivity training after issues with a patient last February.

Heather Smith signed a consent agreement with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives on Dec. 28, after having numerous issues with what appeared to be one patient.

According to the college, the Delta-based registered nurse failed to establish a therapeutic and professional relationship with both the patient and their family member.

She also failed to monitor the patient's blood loss and blood pressure, then delegated an "unregulated care provider" to watch instead.

The college's discipline notice also said Smith wasn't properly assessing the patient's pain level nor whether pain medication was working properly.

She agreed to a reprimand and taking education to address professional standards and medications. Some of her added education will also provide trauma-informed sensitivity training.

The college will then follow up to address "learnings related to trauma informed practice."

"The inquiry committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public," the notice reads.

No other information was provided in the public notice.
