The family of the 22-year-old man whose body was found near Penticton Secondary is being offered support through a Gofundme.

“Taig was the most non-judgemental being I had ever encountered,” said Tracey Savage on the fundraising page, the mother of homicide victim Taig Savage. Taig was found unresponsive in the school field Sept. 5. His death is being investigated as a homicide, according to Penticton RCMP.

Tracey was a mother of 10, but years ago she tragically lost two children in a house fire, and is now burdened with the loss of another child, according to the GoFundMe.

She said Taig’s dog, Cooper, lays with his head hung at the door, with no amount of consoling able to ease the sadness.

“As a mom, I thought his non-judgemental ways put him at risk, too,” she said.

“His money was the first to be spent in the group, and I sometimes felt he was being taken advantage of. Taig never cared – he loved people and having a good time with them, not the money. If you took it, it meant you needed it more than he did. He would have protected any woman or dog from mistreatment, unconditionally… he always defended the underdog.”

She said Taig’s career involved construction jobs where he demonstrated his qualities as a hard working, dedicated, and loyal employee.

“Resourceful and hard working would be words that any of his workmates would attest.”

The GoFundMe can be found online.

The family also just opened the Just Hazel café in Summerland earlier in 2021.
