CHASE - The only thing left of a Scotch Creek pub are ashes after a massive fire engulfed the building yesterday afternoon.

Photographs started circulating social media yesterday afternoon, Dec. 21, showing the Copper Island Inn and Pub on Squilax-Anglemont Road near Chase going up in flames.

Scotch Creek Fire Chief Mike Engholm tells iNFOnews.ca 24 firefighters from Scotch Creek, Celista and Anglemont fought the blaze.

"As soon as I got there it wasn’t fully engulfed but within about five minutes it was," Engholm says.

He says the building is completely destroyed and firefighters are making occasional checks throughout the day today to ensure no hot spots flare up.

Chase RCMP say officers were called to the scene around 3:40 p.m. to assist firefighters.

The fire has been deemed accidental and is believed to have started in the chimney, according to an RCMP media release. No one was injured but the building and the contents have been lost.

Engholm says he wants to thank the fire crews from Celista and Anglemont who helped fight the blaze.
