A suspect facing numerous charges, and who was supposed to be under house arrest in Alberta, was nabbed earlier this month in Kelowna.
Officers spotted a black Ford F-150 pulling a travel trailer. The trailer had been stolen from a Kelowna home overnight on Sept. 15, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Sept. 26. They followed the pickup discretely which stopped at a West Kelowna "commercial location."
The driver and only one in the truck, Gergory Deviat of Cochrane, Alberta, was arrested. The pickup had been stolen in Alberta.
He is known to police after his actions prompted a recent “shelter in place” warning in that Cochrane, Sep. 11.
Deviat has several warrants and charges pending from Alberta and he was supposed to be on 24-hour house arrest in Cochrane.
The investigation remains open, as more property believed to be stolen was found in the trailer, RCMP said.
“This individual already has some significant charges before the courts, not to mention the several warrants out of Alberta," Kelowna RCMP Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay said in the release. "His current court conditions did not deter him from coming to Kelowna where he finds himself in custody with new charges.”
Attempts to return Deviat to Alberta on out-of-province warrants were unsuccessful, police said. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for Sept. 28.
