PENTICTON - Princeton RCMP hope a rash of counterfeit U.S. bills circulating in the community will cease following an arrest last week.

Police have arrested a man believed to be connected to a group that was distributing the bogus bills throughout December, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a press release issued today, Dec. 18.

Princeton RCMP found a suspect vehicle in Coalmont on Dec. 12, believed to be associated with the counterfeiting of $50 American bills.

Police say the driver fled in the vehicle into an isolated, secluded mountainous area where members of the Merritt RCMP joined forces with Princeton RCMP along with the police dog service team.

The vehicle was found, but the driver tried to get away, ramming a police vehicle and jumping out to take off on foot. He was tracked down by the police dog team hiding along a riverbank and arrested.

The 49-year-old man was charged with assaulting a police officer and flight from police.

Police say a search warrant was executed on a travel trailer belonging to the suspect, where further evidence was obtained.

The man is believed to be one of four persons involved in a counterfeiting ring based on Vancouver Island.

The suspect appeared in court on Dec. 14 and has been released on bail along with conditions.
