A popular thrift store in downtown Kelowna is finally reopening after over two years.

Central Okanagan United Church thrift store shut its doors in March 2020 because of the COVID pandemic. It reopened late last month.

The thrift store is one of several community ministry programs run by the Central Okanagan United Church.

“After a deep clean of the premises we were able to reopen,” store manager Linda Gilmour said.

The open doors mean people can once again shop for bargains and they can also come by and donate items.

“People are happy that we are open, not only for the shopping but also for being able to make donations again," she said.

“The opening coincides with our outreach program,” Gilmour said. “We have priced most items at $1. We find this beneficial to the people who attend the outreach program."

Four volunteers sort and process the donations, assist customers as they shop, and keep the shelves and displays organized.

The store, located down the stairs from the parking lot at 721 Bernard Ave., is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
