The third annual outhouse races return to the North Okanagan this weekend.

Hosted in Lumby by the Monashee Trail Society, the event features teams with homemade "racing" outhouses who compete in a series of round-robin races with the fastest advancing to an elimination round.

The first rule for racers is to have fun, but they also have to follow a few construction guidelines.

The outhouse has to be at least three sided and at least four feet high off the ground and cannot have any motor or steering devices. There also has to be a toilet seat, bucket or seat of some kind.

More teams than ever before have registered for this weekend's races, according to a social media post.

Race day is at noon on Sunday, Jan. 21 at the West Salmon Trail parking lot on Bessette Street. If you want to come meet the racers and take photos of their crappers there is a show and shine at 11 a.m. Food vendors will be onsite.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and join the fun. It’s family and pet friendly event.

To register your outhouse for the race send an email to  lumbyouthouserace@gmail.com by Jan. 19. The entry fee is $50 and payable on race day.
