Police seek witness who was driving behind minivan before fatal crash in North Okanagan

VERNON - Police want to speak with a driver who may have witnessed a fatal crash in the North Okanagan earlier this week.

The two-vehicle collision Monday evening at Highway 6 and King Edward Forest Service Road claimed the life of an 18-year-old Vernon teen. Police previously said the minivan being driven by the teen lost control, crossed the centre line and collided with a truck.

There was no evidence to support charges against the driver of the truck, police said.

Police continue to investigate the crash and are seeking a witness who may have been travelling behind the minivan, headed east on Highway 6 at the time of the collision, RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a release.

“Through further investigation, officers have learned that a dark coloured dually truck was observed eastbound behind the Chevrolet minivan that collided with the oncoming west bound truck,” Brett says. “There is a very good possibility the person driving the dually truck witnessed the collision and officers are asking this person come forward to provide a witness statement.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Const. Phil Dobernigg of the North Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-545-7171. You may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leaving a tip online here.
