Police in Kelowna are on the hunt for a shoplifter who has stolen close to $20,000 in merchandise from three local stores recently, including a premium bottle of liquor.

Officers responded to a report about a man stealing from a liquor store on Highway 33 at around 6:15 p.m., Nov. 10, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Nov. 17.

The man concealed an expensive bottle of liquor, paid for a bottle of wine and walked out with the hidden booze.

While reviewing CCTV footage from the unidentified liquor story, police realized is was the same suspect who had shoplifted at several other local stores including a hardware store and a music store.

“This individual appears to have stolen close to $20,000 in merchandise from three stores alone in the last couple weeks,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Michael Gauthier said in the release.

RCMP describe the suspect as an Olive skinned male in his mid 30s or early 40s, with a medium to heavy build and short black hair with a very distinct tattoo along the right side of his neck and throat. He was wearing black framed glasses, a black vest and grey khaki pants.

During the thefts at the music and hardware store, the suspect was wearing the same black vest and glasses along with a camouflaged coloured jacket and toque.

“It would be reasonable to believe he’s committing thefts elsewhere and we need your help. If you know who this is, please let us know," Cpl. Gauthier said. "Moreover, if this person has stolen from your business, please let us know and report it.”

If you can identify this suspect or have further information, contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference file 2023-67181. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppers.net.
