Police officers raid Rutland home; resident says stolen items found

Members of the Kelowna RCMP Community Safety Unit are seen on the scene at a home on Springfield Road in Rutland where alleged stolen items were seized, Thursday, July 23, 2020.

At least six Kelowna RCMP vehicles were involved in an investigation at a Rutland home this afternoon that neighbours say involved stolen goods.

At one point, a tow truck hauled away welding equipment from the home in the 3000 block of Springfield Road near Neptune Road.

Neighbours declined to give their names, but said the house has caused problems in the neighbourhood for years. They said the officers had been there since 11 a.m. today, July 23.

Ken Klassen, who lives in a carriage house at the back of the property, said shopping carts full of junk were collected on the property but pointed out he has nothing to do with it. He said the cops found stolen items on the property and that he was out at the time and came home to find police officers at his residence.

"The Kelowna RCMP Community Safety Unit is conducting an investigation that involves a residence in the 3000-block of Springfield Road. At this time I do not have any further information to provide. Public safety is not a concern," Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in an email.
