ENDERBY - RCMP have arrested one of two suspects involved in an armed robbery that took place in Salmon Arm this morning.
Officers from the Enderby RCMP detachment engaged with the suspect vehicle that was last seen heading south from Salmon Arm today, Dec. 17, according to an RCMP media release. Shortly after the robbery, police spotted the vehicle, a white Ford pickup truck, heading southbound on Highway 97A. The vehicle drove off after a vehicle stop was initiated.
Police say the driver, in an attempt to get away, rammed four police vehicles and three civilian vehicles causing significant damage. No one was hurt.
A multi-unit police response was initiated including the assistance from the RCMP Police Service Dog and the RCMP Air Services Unit, RCMP say. Officers followed the vehicle to the end of Jack Pine Road, where it came to a stop and two suspects fled on foot.
The police dog Cain and his handler caught one of the suspects.
RCMP have not released any details about the armed robbery in Salmon Arm.
“One suspect remains outstanding and officers are still heavily engaged in this investigation,” Const. Kelly Brett says in the release. “Further information will be distributed once available."
