VERNON - Police arrested a prolific offender early this morning after he unsuccessfully tried to flee from them on Highway 97 in the Okanagan.
RCMP say in a media release that today, Nov. 30, at around 1:30 a.m., police in Vernon were alerted about an unfolding chase involving a stolen car that refused to stop for police.
Kelowna RCMP asked for assistance in stopping the vehicle as it headed north to Vernon.
Officers spotted the vehicle, a white Chevrolet Silverado, northbound on Highway 97. A spike belt was deployed, disabling the tires. The driver tried to escape on rims, but he was unsuccessful.
A 40-year-old Alberta man was taken into custody on charges of theft of credit card, fraud, flight from police and possession of stolen property.
