Police chase down suspects in vehicle theft and stabbing incident

Police charged a man and a woman following a police chase of a stolen vehicle through South Okanagan backroads last week.

PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP chased down three suspects last week after finding an injured man left on the side of a highway claiming his vehicle had been stolen.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police found the man on the side of Highway 3A near Marron Valley Road around 4:10 p.m. on Sept. 26.

He claimed his vehicle had been stolen and he’d been stabbed with a screwdriver by two men wearing bandanas. B.C. Ambulance took the man to hospital with a head injury.

Police then searched for a white Dodge Caravan, which they found on Marron Valley Road.

Upon seeing police, the vehicle fled the area, but police caught up with it again around a half hour later on Shingle Creek Road.

Officers used a spike belt and the vehicle struck it, leaving the road near Prairie Valley Road.

Three occupants in the vehicle fled on foot, but were chased down within 45 minutes.

A 39-year-old man was released without charges, while Amos James Atkins, 27, faces charges numerous charges including of possession of stolen property, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified. Jennifer Lynn Atkins, 27, faces one charge of possession of stolen property.
