VERNON - Mounties are appealing to the public for information after a Vernon house caught fire Monday night.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk said a jogger noticed flames on 25 Avenue around 8:30 p.m. and called 911.

Vernon RCMP, the BX-Swan Lake Fire Department, and Vernon Emergency Management Services responded to the blaze. The home was fully engulfed and is extensively damaged.

“No one is believed to have been in the residence at the time of the incident, and the home is believed to have been vacant,” Molendyk said.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire before it spread to the surrounding area.

The cause of the fire is not known and authorities continue to investigate.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or remain anonymous by calling CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
