KAMLOOPS - The Kamloops Outdoor Skating and Hockey Association invites kids and adults to join members of the Blazers and Storm for some ball hockey.  The event will happen beside the concession asphalt plaza area in Riverside Park. Have some fun and find out more about how Kamloops could get some outdoor refrigerated ice.

Bring a stick if you have one. There will be a few spares at the event. Refreshments will be provided.

Members from the Kamloops Outdoor Skating & Hockey Association (KOSHA) approached the City of Kamloops Parks in 2016 about the possibility of developing an artificially cooled ice skating/hockey facility in Riverside Park. KOSHA members believe that such a facility, combining a large pleasure skating area with one or two hockey rinks would be a wonderful draw for locals and visitors alike, and could greatly enhance the overall experience of visiting Riverside Park, making it a true all season park.

Artificially cooled outdoor ice skating systems have been successfully operated across North America for around a decade. Kelowna is one such example; they have been enjoying their City Hall facility for many years. These systems use the same basic technology as indoor ice making plants and can reliably keep ice useable when the air temperature outside gets up to 10 C.

There is an opportunity to create an artificially cooled skating/hockey facility in Kamloops. Residents interested in outdoor skating facility development are also encouraged to attend City of Kamloops Public Budget Meetings to show support for this project.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 22 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: Riverside Park (beside the concession area)
