A mobile home fire in Vernon last night claimed a life.
Vernon Fire Rescue Services responded to the fire at around 11:45 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 19, in the 6900 block of Okanagan Landing Road, according to an RCMP media release.
Firefighters removed the occupant from the residence and tried to resuscitate them but were unsuccessful, RCMP said. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The person's identity has not been released.
Crews arrived at the mobile home fire, which was a few blocks away from a fire station, to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.

“There was significant smoke and fire damage inside the home,” fire chief David Lind said in a media release. “The home’s close proximity to the fire station helped significantly. Older mobile homes can become heavily involved with fire and fill with smoke quickly. The fast response and actions of the crews kept the fire contained to a single property.”
The cause of the fire is undetermined but not believed to be criminal.
