A couple of Penticton Secondary School leadership students want to bring something positive to Penticton tomorrow, April 17, in keeping with the city’s first annual Kindness Day.

Vanessa McLennan and friend Lauren Keilty are putting together a ’socially distanced food drive' to help those struggling in the community.

“This Friday is Penticton’s first annual Kindness Day, and we want to being some positivity to Penticton during this grim time,” she said in an email.

The students will be conducting the food drive at the Gyro Park bandshell from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We are advertising a socially distanced food drive because we want to put emphasis on the fact people will not be putting themselves in danger by coming out to donate their non-perishable food,” McLennan said.

“Lauren and I will be in the bandshell, so people can come up on the cement pad in front and leave the items at the front of the bandshell. We will be standing back so it will be more than two metres of distance between us, and when they leave we will take the food and bring it to the back of the bandshell,” she said.

The two students are thinking of everything.

McLennan says they are placing hula hoops in front of the bandshell to mark a safe social distance in the event of a lineup.
