RCMP have released more information about a deadly three-vehicle crash on Highway 97 in the South Okanagan this past weekend.

Police said a 26-year-old woman was killed when her vehicle collided with two others on Saturday, Oct. 23, on Highway 97 near the Riva Ridge Mobile Home Park near Penticton. RCMP haven't released her identity.

Officers from the Penticton RCMP detachment and the B.C. Highway Patrol responded to the three-vehicle collision at roughly 1 p.m. The crash closed the highway for hours.

Police officers, along with other emergency services, attended to the scene of the crash where the driver of a Mazda traveling northbound crossed the centre line. The Mazda collided with two other on-coming vehicles.

The initial investigation suggests the driver of the Mazda was traveling at a high rate of speed before crossing the double solid line, RCMP said in press release issued today, Oct. 25.

The Mazda driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers and occupants of the other vehicles survived the collision with varying degrees of non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said.

“RCMP offer our condolences to the friends and family of the deceased,” Penticton RCMP media relations officer Const. James Grandy said in the release.
