Penticton prepares to host 3,500 athletes from all over

The Penticton International Triathlon Union Multisport Festival gets underway tomorrow, Aug. 18, as the city prepares to host up to 3,500 athletes.

PENTICTON - On the eve of the start of the 10 day International Triathlon Union Multisport World Championships Festival, the City of Penticton is preparing to welcome visitors from up to 50 countries.

Community Services manager Stephanie Chambers says Penticton expects to host 3,500 athletes competing for several different multisport titles.

The bulk of athletes are coming from Canada and the United States, at 1,030 and 1,077 respectively, with other countries, including  Great Britain (335), Australia (200), New Zealand (181), Japan (217) and Brazil (81) also well represented.

The 10 day sports event runs from Aug. 18 to Aug. 27.
