Penticton police surround wanted man in wood shop at Okanagan College

PENTICTON - A man with numerous outstanding warrants eluded police for a brief time after fleeing into the Okanagan College campus earlier this week.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says members of the Targeted Enforcement Unit observed the suspect at the intersection of Channel Parkway and Duncan Avenue as a passenger in a vehicle around 4 p.m. Monday, May 1.

The suspect spotted the police, got out of vehicle and took off on foot jumping over fences, and ran into a building at Okanagan College.

Wrigglesworth says police cordoned off the campus and police dog tracked the suspect to the wood shop where he was arrested without incident.

Chris Gleige, 36, has numerous outstanding warrants for breach, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended and dangerous driving, he says. The warrants were issued out of Penticton, Summerland and Oliver.

Gliege was held pending a court appearance.
