Penticton mayor faces strong challenge from fellow councillor

Penticton is a community where voters are quite willing to change their minds about who will lead their city.

In 2014, current Mayor John Vassilaki ran for the seat vacated by incumbent Gary Litke.

Vassilaki had served four consecutive terms on council at that time and lost to Andrew Jakubeit who had put in two terms.

In 2018, the results were reversed as Vassilaki defeated Jakubeit for the mayor’s job.

Now, he’s being challenged by one-term city councillor Julius Bloomfield.
