A new program designed to keep people involved in organized crime, gangs and the drug trade out of bars, restaurants and hotels in Penticton is in place this summer.
Inadmissible Patrons Program has been running in other BC cities like Kelowna for many years, according to a Penticton RCMP media release issued, July 22. The goal of the program is enhance security and prevent criminal activity.
"An Inadmissible Patron is defined as a person whose lifestyle, associations and/or activities pose a risk to public safety, either directly or from third parties," the media release read.
Criminals who are a known risk to the public can be removed from the establishments.
The program is being delivered through a partnership between the Penticton RCMP, City of Penticton and the BC Restaurant and Food Service Association.
"By working closely with local businesses, we aim to create a secure environment for all establishments and visitors in Penticton," Penticton RCMP Supt. Beth McAndie said in the release.
Participating businesses display a sign which outlines the rules.
