Penticton City Council has gone through some changes already this year, and another byelection is in the works.

Since the fall there have been three members of Penticton’s City Council that have left the table.

Former councillor Helena Konanz is now the Conservative MP for Similkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding. The race to replace her on city council has begun.

The pre-candidate workshop was earlier this month and the official nomination period ends at 4 p.m. on July 18. Advanced voting is on Aug. 13 and 14, and the general voting day is Aug. 23.

Amelia Boultbee left when she was elected MLA for Penticton-Summerland as a BC Conservative in the fall. Boultbee was replaced by Jason Reynen in a byelection in the spring.

Reynen won the byelection in April by a landslide. He had 1,839 votes and the runner-up Juliana Buitenhuis had 783.

Councillor James Miller has been absent for months while he deals with historic sex crime allegations that stem back to his time as a youth basketball coach in Ontario. Miller has not yet resigned from his position so he is on a mandatory paid leave of absence but he said he is committed to finishing his term in office.
