A Penticton barbershop is supporting a young boy in his battle with cancer.

Okanoggin Barbers Ltd. is sponsoring a fundraiser to support Wills Hodgkinson, 10, who is battling cancer for the third time.

The barber team will donate their day’s pay on Saturday, Feb. 27 and at the end of the day, will hold a raffle draw with proceeds going to Hodgkinson and his family, according to the barber shop's press release.

“We decided to do this because we believe we have an avenue and relationship with our community to bring people together to help someone who so deserves it,” says Peter Beauchamp, owner of Okanoggin Barbers, in the press release. “We are strong believers of community supporting community and this one does that so very well.”

Tickets can be purchased from the shop at 254 Ellis St., Penticton. Donations and appointment bookings will also be accepted for Feb. 27.

Hodgkinson has been covered by numerous media outlets over the years as fundraisers have been set up to help his family cover food, bills and other expenses as they travel back and forth to Vancouver from Penticton for cancer treatment.

He was first diagnosed with Wilms Tumor kidney cancer when he was seven back in 2018, according to a GoFundMe created Jan. 28 by JJ Aubrey.

In 2021, a scan found four new tumours and the one had significantly grown in size.

Wills will be undergoing one shot of chemotherapy, followed by a stem cell transplant and a lobectomy, which will remove 60% of his left lung.  He will be fighting this with a damaged heart, one kidney, and exhausted bone marrow, according to the GoFundMe.
