KAMLOOPS - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early this morning after leaving, what police say, was a holiday celebration.

Kamloops RCMP attended the scene of a crash at the intersection of Comazzetto Road and Highway 1 today, Dec. 21, around 12:15 a.m. Police say the man was attempting to cross the highway when he was killed by a vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 1.

Police believe the man was returning from a work-related holiday event and may have been intoxicated.

"This is yet another stark reminder to look after one another during this holiday season to ensure that we all have safe travel plans home," Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Mat Van Laer says in a media release.

An RCMP collision analyst has been called to the scene to investigate. Traffic was temporarily rerouted for a period of time but is now open in both directions.

Police have not identified the man who was killed.
