An eight-month-old Vernon pup is a star after pet lovers across the country voted for her photo to be part of a national fundraising calendar.
The photo going into the 2023 Bosley’s by Pet Valu calendar shows Rose the Jack Russell mix paddleboarding on Swan Lake, one of many things she loves to do.
“She has a full-fledged personality,” said proud pet owner, Michael Moore of Vernon. “She’s well-behaved and loves to run and chase. She got onto the paddleboard really well, she was shaky at first but picked it up right away. If we’re swimming and she sees a paddleboard she’ll go straight for it.”
The dog’s photo was selected from more than 40,000 entries to be featured as June in the 2024 Companions for Change fundraising calendar created to support pets and pet owners in need. After many selection rounds, the top 100 finalists went to a public vote through pet stores and online.
“I got a notification she’d made it, it was pretty unreal,” Alberts said. “As a proud dog parent I’d been paying attention, telling my friends to vote. It was a lot of fun choosing which photo to submit, we had millions of course.”

Now that Rose is a star, Alberts will be putting her paws in ink to “autograph” calendars at the Bosley’s pet store in Vernon, and he’s considering opening an Instagram account for the adorable pooch.
When asked if the dog is getting spoiled after her big photo win, Albert said “she already is, we are wrapped around her paw.”

In addition to Rose, the calendar contains photos of 16 Canadian pets including dogs, cats, a KuneKune piglet, guinea pigs and a hedgehog.
The calendar is available in all Bosley’s by Pet Valu stores for a give-what-you-can donation. One hundred per cent of the donations go to Pet Valu’s Companions for Change initiatives which have raised more than $26 million to support Canadian animal rescues and charities across Canada since 2010.
