A breeder in the West Kootenays was overwhelmed and had to surrender 11 labradoodle puppies, according to the BC SPCA.

“This is yet another case of a breeder who bred dogs and now can’t find homes for them and can’t afford their care,” a BC SPCA senior manager, Jamey Blair, said in a press release.

The five-month-old puppies were surrendered just before the holidays. They were given baths, vaccines, and treatment for intestinal parasites, according to a press release.

The BC SPCA said an anonymous donor has agreed to match donations up to $250,000, including donations to help care for these dogs.

“They were all very unsure about being walked on a leash, but we have been doing some training with them and they have come a long way in a short period of time,” Blair said.

The dogs need a face trim so the SPCA is working on getting a groomer in to see them, and two of the puppies have veterinarian appointments for minor issues.

“They play so nicely together. It has been such a joy to watch them come out of their shells. We are starting to see them show more of their personalities,” Blair said.

The puppies will be ready for adoption early in the new year.
