Outbreak declared over at Merritt care home

Interior Health says the COVID-19 outbreak at The Florentine care facility in Merritt is over.

The outbreak at the privately operated long-term care facility was initially declared on Feb. 18 after one resident tested positive with the virus.

Since that time, just one more resident tested positive, according to an Interior Health press release.

It's been 28 days since the last case was detected, leading Interior Health to declare that it is over, according to its protocols.

There are two remaining COVID-19 outbreaks at healthcare facilities within the Interior Health region, both in Kelowna.

The Cottonwoods Care Center currently has 23 cases: 20 residents and three staff. Kelowna General Hospital has eight cases within unit 5B. Four patients and four staff have been affected, and one death is connected to the KGH outbreak.
