Murray McDonald, an Osoyoos chef, plans on taking his family to Hawaii when it’s safe to do so now that he’s $1 million richer thanks to Lotto 6/49.
“It has been one of the best experiences ever,” he said in a BC Lottery Corporation news release. “I am very grateful!”
He won the $1 million on a June 2 draw and was just dozing off to sleep when his wife texted him to say someone in Osoyoos had won.
He checked the ticket online.
“I texted my wife and said ‘I think I won!’” McDonald said. “My wife was the first person who knew... she was just smiling. I sent a text to my sister and mother who told me to stop joking.”
He bought the winning ticket from NK’Mip corner on 45 Street and returned there to verify that it was the winner, having to patiently wait in line while three people paid for gas first.
As an avid guitar collector and musician, he also plans to add a few guitars to his collection.
