Organized crime unit backs up Kamloops RCMP to target gang violence

A smoke grenade was among the items seized from Kamloops criminals earlier this month.

Seven ounces of heavy drugs, thousands of dollars in cash, guns, knives and batons were also taken by police during a joint enforcement effort between April 5 and 9, according to an RCMP media release issued today, April 21.

Nearly nearly two dozen investigations were conducted.

Officers from the Kamloops RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit – following a number of violent crimes related to drugs – requested the assistance of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit British Columbia Uniform Gang Enforcement Team.

“The Kamloops Crime Reduction Unit and frontline officers continue to target repeat and violent offenders through joint partnerships,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release.

“We will continue with comprehensive enforcement strategies to enhance public safety as a detachment and community priority.”

Weapons including a pistol, knives and a baton, along with cash and cellphones are some of the items that were seized.
