A 40-year-old man is behind bars after he was caught by the Kelowna RCMP last week in a stolen pickup.
Officers spotted a man known to police behind the wheel of a white 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck on April 28 that turned out to be stolen out of Vernon, while the licence plate had been pilfered in Kelowna, according to an RCMP media release.
The stolen pickup was followed until it stopped in the 1600 block of Dilworth Drive, the suspect driving got out and was immediately arrested.
“A search of the vehicle located a set of vehicle keys,” Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay with the Kelowna RCMP Target Team said in the release. “The keys in the stolen truck lead investigators to the successful recovery of a 2018 Toyota Tacoma reported as stolen from a Kelowna residence earlier that day."
Christoper Brazeau, 40, is facing a number of charges including possession of stolen property over $5,000 and driving while prohibited.
Brazeau remains in custody.
“The police would like to remind the public to always secure their vehicles and remove any belongings, including your vehicle keys, to prevent theft and other crimes,” Cpl. Tanguay said.
