Three expensive e-bikes were stolen from a Kamloops bike shop earlier this week and one of them has now been recovered by police.
Thieves struck when a transformer caught fire knocking out power to the Bicycle Cafe in the 1000 block of Victoria Street overnight on Monday, Aug. 14, and disabling the security system.
Owner Cheryl Beattie told iNFOnews.ca the thieves broke in while the power was out and took three e-bikes. The three bikes range in price from $5,000 to $9,000.
"This was a super opportunistic crime," she said on Tuesday.
An officer on patrol spotted one of the stolen bikes today, Aug. 16, and a suspect was arrested.
“Although one person was arrested, it’s important to note the investigation is ongoing and no one has been charged yet,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a media release.
The hunt continues for the two outstanding e-bikes, a Giant Stance E2 and Giant Trance E2.
Police have released images from security cameras of the suspects.
Anyone with information related to the break-in or stolen bikes is asked to please contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-29323.
